• Founder & Owner - Yellowstone Land Management

Hi, I’m Forrest Hermanns—founder of Yellowstone Land Management, (formerly known as Forestry, Fuels and Fire). I started this business with one goal in mind: to protect people, property, and land from the growing threat of wildfire—and to do it in a way that’s local, honest, and rooted in real experience.

I grew up in the logging camps of Southeast Alaska, surrounded by forest, wildlife, and the people who make their living off the land. My dad worked as a forester for 32 years, so forest management, safety, and conservation weren’t just things I learned—they were part of everyday life.

After graduating high school in interior Alaska, I enrolled in the Alaska Wildland Fire Academy and joined the Tanana Chiefs—a 20-man wildland firefighting crew. Over the next 6 years, I worked my way from rookie to crew boss, gaining hands-on experience battling intense fires across rugged terrain. From there, I took on a leadership role with the State of Alaska as a Wildland Fire Technician, where I was certified as an Engine Boss, Helicopter Manager, and Incident Commander.

But after nearly a decade of fighting fires after they’d already started, I knew it wasn’t enough.

I saw firsthand how much loss could be prevented with the right kind of preparation—and how underserved many landowners were when it came to clearing, defensible space, and wildfire mitigation.

That’s why I founded Yellowstone Land Management (previously known as Forestry, Fuels and Fire). Today, I help homeowners and property managers in Montana create safer, cleaner, more beautiful land—while reducing fire risk and improving long-term forest health.

Whether I’m running machinery on-site, walking a property with a client, or working up a custom plan, I bring the same mindset I learned on the fireline:
➡️ Work hard. Think ahead. Protect what matters.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me rafting Montana’s rivers, bowhunting, fly fishing, or smoking meats and experimenting with new recipes.

Thanks for stopping by. If you’re ready to protect your property and clear your land with purpose, I’d love to connect with you.
